Overview:
I really enjoy being a part of the ClubXcite team because through tutoring and mentoring, not only am I helping others but I am also learning even more about myself. I'm developing more interests and new ideas to add to my future goals while creating so many fun and exciting memories and experiences. ClubXcite is a wonderful company that emphasizes quality relationships between tutors/mentors and students which really is a huge part of the learning process. The company is made up of so many awesome people with amazing goals that are very passionate about what they do.
Education: I graduated from Woodrow Wilson Classical High School with high honors from the Distinguished Scholars program with 4 years of experience in American Sign Language. I am currently attending UC San Diego aiming for a degree in Mathematics with a minor in Linguistics and Language for American Sign Language.
Experience: I have a younger brother, now 14, that has ADHD. Growing up, my parents would always ask me to help him with his homework, especially math just because I liked it and was good at explaining things. I will admit, he was and sometimes still is a challenge to work with, but working with him and trying to help him to understand concepts he refuses to learn has taught me so much about the learning process. He has taught me the greatest teaching lesson of all, patience. Through tutoring him, I learned to relate to people who refuse to understand. I have learned so much about tutoring such as how to simplify concepts and break them down in ways for people to relate to and understand. Through him, I have become the tutor I am today. With the lessons I learned from him, I moved on to tutor kids that do not speak english very well, kids who have Aspergers or Autism, and so much more. I realized I was capable and good at tutoring students with disabilities, and have come to love it so much. So far through out my tutoring career, I have worked with kids and teenagers experiencing Aspergers, Autism, and ADHD. Professionally, I really enjoy working with children and my goal is to learn more and expand my tutoring range to work towards being a great teacher.
Hobbies & Skills: On a more personal level, my passions include American Sign Language, yoga, fitness training, and working with kids. I played soccer growing up for roughly 6 or 7 years and I enjoyed it very much and helped out with coaching a little bit, but in high school I stopped playing and became very interested in yoga. I am taking my 5th year of American sign language this year and I love it so much. Through out high school, I took classes as my foreign language and became fascinated and got involved in the deaf community. Also during high school, I started tutoring math after school. Math was my favorite subject to begin with, and once I started tutoring and realized I could help people I got very involved and started tutoring for the Long Beach Unified School District as well as my own private tutoring on the side. This is what lead to my major/minor choice. For my future career, I want to combine the three things I love most: math, teaching, and American Sign Language. My goal is to get an interpreting certification, as well as necessary teaching credentials to be able to teach special education and the deaf. My ultimate career goal is to do all of the above and also earn a masters degree in teaching with American Sign Language.
Why ClubXcite? When I moved down to San Diego for college, I decided that tutoring was something I really wanted to do and thats when I found ClubXcite. ClubXcite is a wonderful company that emphasizes quality relationships between tutors/mentors and students which really is a huge part of the learning process. The company is made up of so many awesome people with amazing goals that are very passionate about what they do. I really enjoy being a part of the ClubXcite team because through tutoring and mentoring, not only am I helping others but I am also learning even more about myself. I'm developing more interests and new ideas to add to my future goals while creating so many fun and exciting memories and experiences. Since I moved down to San Diego this past September, I have been tutoring a very bright 17 year old girl with Aspergers in Calculus, and continuing to tutor my 14 year old brother with ADHD in algebra. I also started doing after school programs with ClubXcite mainly just for fun and to be able to have more experience working with kids. I am looking forward to learning more and working towards my future goal by tutoring and mentoring with ClubXcite.
