Name: Esther M.
Age: 22

Overview:
Esther has been working as a Tutor and Mentor with our Partner site at the San Diego Youth Services (SDYS), providing six free hours of tutoring for low-income and at-risk children and teens. She's been outstanding and committed to all the students she's worked with.
Education: I graduated from Half Moon Bay High School in the Bay Area in 2006. I'm currently finishing an undergraduate degree in Child and Family Development at San Diego State University.
Experience: I have been working with children since before I can remember. After babysitting for years, I started teaching swim lessons at a local swim school in my Bay Area hometown. While teaching at this school, I gained experience working with children with special needs such as Autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, as well children with a broad range of social, emotional, and behavioral problems. I entered into the Child and Family Development program at SDSU in 2007, where I have had the opportunity to increase my experience with children in various different settings. In 2010, I was placed in an internship at St. Vincent De Paul where I was able to spend time with children and their families who were residents at the shelter. In early 2011, I spent time interning as a student teacher at Clay Elementary School in a fully inclusive classroom with children having a variety of special needs and disabilities.
Hobbies & Skills: I love going to the beach and being in the sunshine. I enjoy traveling to visit family as well as seeing new parts of the world. Listening to music is one of my favorite pastimes when I have free time on my hands and I love to relax!
Why ClubXcite? When I learned about ClubXcite, I was very interested in their different programs. I am currently a ClubXcite (San Diego Youth Services) tutor, working with at risk youth. I really take pleasure in being able to assist the children I work with in bettering their understanding in school subjects they are struggling in. If it weren’t for this program, some of these children would have no where to turn for help, and I really love being a part of such an amazing organization.
